stop, drop, and roll

Today was a some what monumental day for the community of Tremonton... well not that monumental, but that is the word that is getting used today. The senior citizen building was burned down today. Gasp! There is no need to gasp as it was a controlled burn by not just one but four fire departments. I was not able to be at the burning, as I was stuck in the wonderful world of Walmart all day (blah!).

A little history on the building:

Name: Senior Citizen Center- its real name is Mckinley School aka "the old Mckinley" (as opposed to "the new Mckinley"- I went to elementary school at the new Mckinley)

Age: Really old

Date of Death: September 26, 2008 Rest in peace yellow building.

Events that happened in this building:

-Voting
-Concerts
(the student city council attempted to make this the "cool" thing to do- for some
reason the country folk never really caught on to this, could have something to do with it being
right next to the police department... hmmm...)
-My grandma JoAnn was named mother of the year there
-I took singing classes from Jan Rawlinson there (even though we all know I can't sing.)
-The food pantry lived there
-In elementary school we walked there to visit the museum every year, which was actually
pretty cool. There was a room that was set up like the classroom in Anne of Green Gables,
also one that was set up kinda western, I think it had a jail cell in it, not sure about that
though. So it had a lot of old things that were donated by the town. Bad thing about it was it
was never really open to the community so not many people knew about it.
-My dad went to elementary school there (he was born in 1960, and was the last 5th
grade class to go to school there, it was a really old building!).
-I broke my arm on a slide behind the building when I was 4.

At the moment that is all that happened there, oh the old people kinda hung out there, hence the "senior" center.

OH, The coolest fact about this building is that my Dad, the fireman and member of the last 5th grade class, was the only person that got to light the building on fire. Talk about a student's dream coming true (who cares if it was some 30 or 40 years late!)

Second coolest fact: I was one of the few people allowed passed the police tape to take pictures. (My dad is pretty cool)

So in honor of such a building here is a slide show of the aftermath:

in honor of something really old

Give a hoot!

So we found an owl in my neighbor's tree... he didn't really enjoy the fact that I was trying to take a picture of him... I actually took several, but he slept through the majority of them, and then he decided to glare at me. (it could be a she...)

CAKES!

So since I am currently the daughter of the relief society president in my ward, I "get" to partake in every activity that happens in the ward. My new favorite, though, is our new cake decorating class. It's only going to be once a month, but I'm practicing like crazy. And anyone who knows me knows that I never go half-in to things, yes I am currently purchasing anything that is related to cakes, and surfing the internet for more! You could say that I'm crazed... Well here is the first cake that I have done, I think its pretty ok for the first try.
